Sakinah is a place to look for a spouse with sincerity. These terms are the agreement between you and us. We have kept them as plain as we can. Please read them before you create an account.
1. Who these terms are with
Sakinah is run by Sakinah Technologies Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (“Sakinah,” “we,” “us”). These terms cover the Sakinah apps for iOS and Android and the website at sakinah.ca (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
2. Who can use Sakinah
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be a Muslim looking for a spouse, with the genuine intention of marriage. Sakinah is not for dating, casual chatting, or finding friends.
- You must be able to form a binding contract where you live, and you must not be barred from using the Service by law.
- One person, one account. You must give true information about yourself and keep it up to date.
We verify every member with a government ID before their profile goes live. We may refuse or end an account if we cannot confirm who you are or that you are an adult.
3. Your account
Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us at contact@sakinah.ca if you think someone else has got in.
4. How to behave
We ask every member to act with adab. You agree that you will not:
- Pretend to be someone else, or give false details about your age, status, family, or intentions.
- Harass, threaten, pressure, or shame another member, or their wali or family. This includes unwanted contact after someone has stopped replying or blocked you.
- Send sexual, indecent, hateful, or abusive messages or images.
- Use Sakinah to sell anything, advertise, recruit, or find customers, or ask members for money.
- Collect other members' information, scrape the Service, or use it in a way that breaks the law.
- Try to get around the Service's limits or security, or interfere with how it works.
You can report or block any member from inside the App. We review reports and may warn, suspend, or remove a member.
5. The wali feature
Sisters are strongly encouraged to add a wali, and can skip it with a warning. Brothers do not add a wali, though they may name a mahram contact. If you add a wali, you confirm that you have their permission to share their name and contact details with us, and you agree that we will email them copies of the messages in your conversations (from both you and the other member) once they confirm their invitation. You can switch the copies off at any time under Profile, My wali.
If you message a member who has a wali, you understand that your messages will be copied to that wali. You may pause or end the conversation at any time. A wali is not a Sakinah user and is not acting for Sakinah. We are not responsible for what a wali does with the emails they receive.
6. Photos and your content
- Upload up to two photos, at least one, and only photos of yourself that you have the right to use. They must be decent. No nudity, no one else in the frame, no logos or contact details.
- Photos are never in the feed. Another member sees them only as a first glance you have both agreed to: ten seconds at a time, up to three times in a match. Every view is logged, and you are told each time.
- Do not screenshot, record, copy, or share another member's photo or profile by any means. The App blocks screenshots, and trying to get around that is a breach of these terms.
- You keep ownership of what you post. You give us a licence to store, display, and send it as the Service needs, and to show it to our review team. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from the limited records described in the Privacy Policy.
- We may remove a photo or any content that breaks these terms.
7. Salāms and plans
A salām is one introduction: a single message sent to a profile you would like to know. It is how every conversation starts.
- Free members get 2 salāms a month and cannot reply to messages.
- Premium members get 1 salām a day and can reply in conversations.
- Extra salāms are $1.99 USD each. They are consumable: once you use an extra salām it is spent, and it cannot be refunded or moved to another account. Unused extras are lost if your account is deleted.
- Allowances reset on a calendar basis in UTC. A salām counts once it is sent, whether or not the other person replies.
8. Subscriptions, billing, and refunds
Premium is bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play. It costs $24.99 USD per month, shown before you buy. The store may show a slightly different local price.
Auto-renewal. Premium renews automatically each month at the same price until you cancel. Your payment is charged to your Apple or Google account at confirmation, and again at the start of each period. To stop a renewal, cancel in your Apple or Google account settings at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You keep your paid access until the period you paid for is over. Deleting the app or your Sakinah account does not cancel a subscription. You must cancel it with Apple or Google.
Refunds. Apple and Google process the payment, so they decide and issue refunds under their own policies. You can request one from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or from Google Play. We will support your request if you write to us. Our contact page has the address. Nothing here limits any refund right the law gives you.
Price changes. We may change prices. A change applies to your next renewal, and Apple or Google will tell you first where their rules require it.
Hardship access. If you cannot afford Premium, you can apply for free access. Approval is at our discretion, and we may review or end it if your circumstances were misstated.
9. Ending your access
You can stop using Sakinah and delete your account at any time from the You tab in the App. See how to delete your account.
We may suspend or end your account, with or without notice, if you break these terms, put someone at risk, give false information, or we are required to by law. If we end a paid account for your breach, we are not required to refund the unused part of what you paid, except where the law says we must.
10. What Sakinah is, and is not
Sakinah introduces people who are looking to marry. We check ID and review profiles, but we cannot know everyone's heart or history. We do not promise that you will find a spouse, that a match will reply, or that any member is who they say they are. Conversations, meetings, and marriages that follow are between you and the other member and your families. Please involve your wali or family, meet in public places, and tell someone you trust. Sakinah does not arrange, witness, or guarantee any marriage.
11. Disclaimers and limits of liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We work hard to keep it running and safe, but we do not promise it will always be available, error-free, or secure. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for what other members or walis say or do, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and CAD $100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing takes away any right you have as a consumer where you live, including under Quebec law.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will tell you by email or in the App at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can delete your account. Using the Service after the change takes effect means you accept it.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Courts in Ontario will decide any dispute, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere. If you are a consumer in Quebec, the consumer protection rules of Quebec still apply to you.
